Director’s Note

Welcome into the woods, into the fairy tales and into the heart of the story. Into the Woods is a musical theater favorite for a reason. This show explores the selfishness of getting your wish regardless of the cost and the consequences that come after happily ever after. We journey with the classic characters of Cinderella and her horrible family, Jack and the Beanstalk and his hungry mother, Rapunzel and her controlling Witch "mother", Little Red Riding Hood and the ravenous Wolf, selfish Princes and our additional friends the Baker and his wife. The woods are the great equalizer for all our characters, it doesn't matter if you are poor or a prince, you wish for a child or to go to the festival or just going to visit your granny, you will be tempted, have to make tough decisions, will lose your way and find it again. In the end we pay the consequences of our actions which hopefully leads us to come together as a community and support all.

Into the Woods debuted in1986 during the AIDS crisis, the of revival 2001 was amidst 9/11 and most recently 2022 was post Covid. We do this now in the midst of much upheaval and division in our country. It is my hope that the art we enjoy will help us build community, see that we are more alike than we are different, that we all have a wish we want to make happen, but that the best way to get our wish is to consider the consequences and seek community to build a better life together. Our cast and crew have worked hard together to build this community theater production of Into the Woods. We hope our efforts bring you joy, love, introspection and laughter. Thank you for supporting our live local theater, a play does not exist without an audience. Remember "No one is alone".

Kira Thorkildsen, Director

Elisabeth Zimmerman (she/her)

Set Designer / Art Director

With a background in Fine and Commercial Arts, it was a small step to progress into theatre. Set design allows for a free and whimsical approach, making an imaginary vision come alive. Adding “stage hand” and “props” is a cherry on top. Spending time with friends & getting to know about the amount of work put into every detail gives a true sense of community.

Cindy Ryden (she/her)
Prop Master

Recent Sky Performing Arts “artist” -- long time Thespian.  Her recent backstage work has been in “Hercules”, Little Women and Puss In Boots with Sky Performing Arts.  Her recent onstage work has been The V. Monologues and Standing on Ceremony: the Gay Marriage Plays with Sky: after dark. Past work at Auburn’s Performing Arts Center, Green River Community College and Frank Wagner Elementary includes Lady Capulet in a period piece of Romeo & Juliet, a wooly mammoth, various children’s theatre roles, many chorus opportunities, some dance ensemble, a whole lot of back stage work, management and assistant managing, lighting technician assistance, some brief sound experiences, a very brief directorial role, and many, many, many opportunities to dance, sing, and create stage pieces and images.  The stage is her happy place--always has, always will be!

Crystal Webb (she/her)
Make Up Artist
In 1980 when she took her first stage make-up class as a theatre minor, she was hooked – especially on special effects. She loves the ephemeral nature of makeup. Every application is a new temporary piece; a tool to bring characters to life. Special effects makeup, in particular, lets us push the boundaries of “What if?”.
